The Mercedes Vision V is a spaceship-inspired future for the V-Class.

Mercedes-Benz has given a glimpse of what the future of the V-Class could look like with the Vision V.

The Shanghai Auto Show is underway, and Mercedes-Benz has pulled the covers off something a bit different. It is called the Vision V and while its looks may not be to everyone’s taste, it is intended to serve as the most posh expression of people-moving mobility from Stuttgart. Though not destined for showrooms as-is, the Vision V previews the kind of tech and opulence Mercedes plans to inject into its upcoming vans, which means it could be a preview of what a future V-Class could be.

What is different to the posh people-mover known in South Africa at the moment, this concept is founded upon the new Van Electric Architecture platform. The move closer aligns with a zero-emissions approach to mobility, and production versions are expected to start arriving from 2026.

Inside is where the real party trick of the Vision V is. Seemingly inspired by a spaceship, the van features a massive 65-inch 4K screen which drops down between the seats. This visuals are paired with a 42-speaker Dolby Atmos sound system. The cabin features adjustable seating configurations, a privacy partition that switches from clear to opaque, and even fragrance diffusion to match the mood. There is also a built-in chessboard for those who prefer a quieter way to pass the time.

For those in the front row, the dashboard features Mercedes’ signature Superscreen, and there’s a regular steering wheel, pedals, and a cabin that feels ready for the road rather than a concept car fantasy. The German automaker hasn’t provided any more details on what is under the bonnet (or in this case, floor). Powertrain details are still under wraps, and there’s no word on whether this flamboyant styling will survive in the showroom.
