Homeowner shoots dead robber holding daughter hostage

The homeowner was upstairs when he heard his daughter screaming and immediately went to the safe and took out his shotgun.

One of four armed suspects was shot dead by a homeowner during a house robbery in Boksburg, in Ekurhuleni.

Boksburg North police spokesperson Captain Juanita Coetzer said the suspects entered the house at 12.30pm on Tuesday. They grabbed the daughter, who was downstairs, and demanded money, Boksburg Advertiser reported.

“Her father, who was upstairs at that moment, heard his daughter screaming and immediately went to the safe and took out his shotgun,” said Coetzer.

As he was about to come down the stairs, the suspect who held his daughter hostage pointed a firearm at him.

“The next moment, the father fatally shot the suspect,” Coetzer explained.

The suspect was reportedly shot in the head. His accomplices fled the scene.

A case of house robbery and possession of unlicensed firearm is being investigated.
