Policeman commits suicide after shooting wife in KZN

The cop had approached his wife who prepares meals at the Mission on Sundays and fired several shots.


A 48-year-old policeman was killed and his wife injured following a shooting on Sundial Place in Chetty’s Hill, Tongaat, on Sunday, Phoenix Sun reports.

Members of a security company, Reaction Unit South Africa received a call from a resident who reported multiple shots being fired at the Mission, which is situated next to a church.

Reaction officers were dispatched to the scene and upon arrival, it was established that Warrant Officer Shaun Zangwa based at the Tongaat police had approached his wife, who prepares meals at the Mission on Sundays.

The couple began arguing when the police official withdrew his 9mm service pistol and fired three shots at her. One bullet struck her in the arm. He then proceeded to an opened ground behind the Mission and shot himself in the head.

Medics were called out to the scene and upon arrival, found that the policeman had been fatally injured and was declared dead. His wife was rushed to the Tongaat Clinic by a member of public before being transferred to hospital in a stable condition.

A case of attempted murder and suicide is being investigated.
