11 dead in mass shooting on the N11 near Ladysmith

Police are treating the incident as a high-priority crime.


A mass shooting on the N11 near Ladysmith in KwaZulu-Natal, believed to be related to taxi violence, has left 11 dead and many injured, Ladysmith Gazette reports.

The shooting took place this morning at the Matiwaneskop N11 intersection. A private security vehicle linked to the Klipriver Taxi Association was ambushed, with five people inside the vehicle killed.

A taxi passing the incident lost control, and is believed to have crashed. It is uncertain at this stage if shots were fired at the taxi.

It was believed that some schoolchildren were in the taxi. However, it has been confirmed that it may be teachers, and not children, from a nearby school.
