PSL play-offs to continue

The National First Division promotional play-offs will remain unchanged going into the 2014/15 season despite speculation they could be scrapped.

This was confirmed by the Premier Soccer League’s (PSL) general manager Derek Blanckensee yesterday at the league’s headquarters in Parktown during the fixtures draw for the new season.

Jomo Sono, a member of the PSL’s Board of Governors, hinted that the play-off system could be scrapped with the top two teams in the National First Division promoted automatically while the bottom two in the Premier League are relegated.

“The number of Under-23 players rule change, which is not approved by Safa yet, is that you have to have five Under-23s in your team sheet,” Blanckensee said.

“But you must have two on the field of play at all times. So the number of Under-23s is less.

The promotion/relegation, I am not sure where Jomo gets that from, but I don’t think there has been such a change. As far as I know things are still the same.”
