ANC’s Limpopo Marula festival debacle
Is Cassper Nyovest really jealous of Master KG?
DJ Maphorisa took to Twitter on Tuesday morning to indicate that his new track Phoyisa featuring Kabza is ready, and to invite rapper Cassper Nyovest to do a verse on the song.
This led to such a backlash from the rapper’s haters that by the time he had woken up on Tuesday, Nyovest had ruled out doing the verse due to the negative feedback he’d received.
Nyovest, who is currently South Africa’s number one trending topic on Twitter, said in a tweet he’d woken up to the “whole country shittin on me [sic] saying they don’t want me on the record”.
He added that while he believed he would have “smashed it out the park”, he didn’t want to “force issues” by appearing on the song.
“This is your moment Phorry,” he said, calling the DJ by his nickname. “Let it ring without me”.
In another tweet responding to a fan, Nyovest denied he had cancelled his verse because he cared too much about what those on Twitter think.
“Nah I don’t listen to Twitter. I just think the energy around the song changed when they heard I was on the song. I don’t wanna mess up Maphorisa’s moment with [people] discussing my verse instead of just enjoying the song. The energy around the song was so positive till this morning,” he said.
The issue, meanwhile, appears to have divided Twitter, with some saying Nyovest would ruin the song and others saying he would make it. Many mentioned that he has a good record when it comes to verses on SA dance tracks in styles such as gqom and amapiano, with his role in making DJ Sumbody’s Monate Mpolaye a hit brought up by several Twitter users.
UPDATE: Nyovest has since changed his mind and dropped a verse on Phoyisa. More on that here.

Cassper owned Monate Mpolaye. He made that song a HIT. If there's any Hip Hop artist that can touch iPiano and make it sound good, it's definitely Nyovest. He keeps delivering, why the hate?

This whole Cassper debacle is a little sad and funny because only now when you guys realise what power your words have then you want to retreat. You want to call Cassper sensitive when the whole time you were saying he is unnecessary on the song.
