A 10-year-old child has been airlifted to a Johannesburg hospital after he sustained severe burn wounds in Lydenburg, Mpumalanga.
According to Netcare 911 paramedic, Andre Denneyschen, the child sustained second-degree burns when he was allegedly burnt with boiling water, Steelburger News reported
“According to information received, the child sustained the wounds by means of a kettle, but if you look at the number of burns, it could have also had been a pot of water.”
The child was rushed to the medical centre for treatment.
Denneyschen was called to arrange for the transport of the child via Netcare’s Bell222 helicopter.
In the meantime, local hazmat operator, Deon Broekman arranged that part of Viljoen Street at the medical centre be closed off for its landing. It took the helicopter a mere hour to reach the town from Johannesburg.
Doctors and Netcare 911 paramedics stabilised the child before he was loaded into the helicopter. He was flown to Garden City hospital in Johannesburg for treatment.
The name of the child was not immediately available and further details will follow.
