Child reportedly struck in face by teargas canister in N2 protest

By Sugan Naidoo

A Merlewood Primary pupil in KwaZulu-Natal has been taken to hospital after apparently being accidentally struck in the face by a teargas canister, reportedly fired by police early on Thursday.

WARNING: Video contain strong language.

The community is angry at the lack of progress on the construction of new school buildings, South Coast Herald reported.

The road is now open, but protest action is continuing in Merlewood itself.

There is a strong police presence.

Information received indicates that both lanes have been blocked by rocks and burning tyres.
