Government allocates R265 million to get South Africa off greylist – Godongwana

As part of the response measures to the recent placing of the country on the greylisting, the Financial Intelligence Centre has been allocated additional funding of more than R200 million to implement the financial action task force’s recommendations to get the country off the grey list.

This was announced by Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana as he was presenting National Treasury’s budget in parliament on Tuesday.

Thabo Bester changes lawyers as case postponed to June

Facebook rapist Thabo Bester will return to court next month after his case was postponed by the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court.

Bester made his second court appearance on Tuesday, but virtually from the Kgosi Mampuru II Correctional Centre in Pretoria.

Flavio Hlabangwane: Family of deceased girlfriend want missing body parts for closure

Flavio Hlabangwane was on Tuesday sentenced to life in prison for premeditated murder by the High Court in Palm Ridge.

He confessed to and was found guilty of killing and mutilating his cousin and lover, Tshepang Pitse.

Motsoaledi, IEC dragged court over donations to political parties

The Political Party Funding Act (PPFA) is facing a court challenge amid proposed amendments to the legislation by Home Affairs Minister Aaron Motsoaledi.

My Vote Counts has approached the Western Cape High Court, seeking an order to declare the law, which came into effect on 1 April 2021, unconstitutional and invalid.

Less than 20% of SA’s grade 4 pupils can read for meaning, minister blames Covid

South Africa’s educational landscape has been shaken by the alarming results of the 2021 Progress in International Reading Literacy Study (PIRLS).

The study, which evaluates reading performance among grade 4 pupils in 57 countries, shows a significant decline in reading proficiency in South Africa. It revealed that only 19% of grade 4 pupils can read for meaning, marking a concerning drop from 22% in 2016.

Sometime last year Zandile Khumalo-Gumede posted on Instagram that she had a dream while napping, that they as the Khumalo family had decided that they wouldn’t want media present when they testify.

“Not even our voices should be heard, angisho sinamanga (we are liars, isn’t it) so we don’t wanna waste any more of the peoples time, since si guilty, so we rather testify to the court alone since they are the only ones who haven’t found us guilty and the court said granted, my biggest fear is that my dreams always come true,” Zandie said wrote in the Instagram post after her nap.
