Who is the anonymous witness in Senzo Meyiwa trial? Tweeps think they have figured it out

Twitter detectives are convinced that they have figured out who the anonymous witness is that doesn't want her testimony broadcast by the media.

Sometime last year Zandile Khumalo-Gumede posted on Instagram that she had a dream while napping, that they as the Khumalo family had decided that they wouldn’t want media present when they testify.

“Not even our voices should be heard, angisho sinamanga (we are liars, isn’t it) so we don’t wanna waste any more of the peoples time, since si guilty, so we rather testify to the court alone since they are the only ones who haven’t found us guilty and the court said granted, my biggest fear is that my dreams always come true,” Zandie said wrote in the Instagram post after her nap.

This post has since come into sharp focus as it came out yesterday that the state’s next witness in the trial against the five men accused of killing former Bafana Bafana captain Senzo Meyiwa has objected to her testimony being broadcast live by the media. The witness, whose name is yet to be disclosed, is said to be a public figure and was present on the day Meyiwa was killed in October 2014.

That the witness has opted to remain anonymous has set a wildfire of speculation on social media, with a section of commentators on the case thinking it’s Zandie, while others say it can’t be her because Kelly Khumalo’s sister isn’t a public figure.

Outspoken media personality Nota Baloyi was one of those who added his two cents to the new developments of the Senzo Meyiwa case.

Another Zandie Instagram post was pulled up, where she intimated that she wanted her day in court but is now seemingly getting cold feet.

Not buying it

In her submission, Advocate Mshololo contended that the witness was already widely recognised by the public and had been actively engaging in commentary about the trial on social media and also took part in the Netflix documentary on Meyiwa’s murder – Senzo: Murder of a Soccer Star.

“There is no evidence that has been placed before this court to say as a result of her participating on the Netflix [documentary], this is what she has suffered… instead of what we know is that she has been paid for participating [in the documentary and] she benefited without any prejudice. “…It is my submission that this court should not entertain that application. This court should not grant the application.”

The former Pirates goalkeeper was gunned down in what has been described as a botched robbery at the family home of his then-lover and musician Kelly Khumalo, in Vosloorus, east of Johannesburg.
