By CNS Reporter

A joint operation by the ILembe Cluster Task Team, Empangeni Public Order Police and Ethekwini Outer South Task Team resulted in the arrest of five drug dealers in KwaDukuza, KwaZulu-Natal, North Coast Courier reports.

With the aim of eradicating the use of drugs in and around the area, the task teams visited a number of problem areas in the KwaDukuza CBD, where criminal activity is most prominent.

A large amount of drugs and money, suspected to be the proceeds of the sales, was discovered. Among the confiscated drugs were ecstasy, rock cocaine and mandrax to the estimated street value of R10 000.

A total of five suspects, including a woman, were arrested for dealing in drugs.

The operations are continuing in the Ilembe Cluster, and more arrests are expected.

The arrested suspects, aged between 30 and 40, are expected to appear in the KwaDukuza Magistrates’ Court soon.

“This proves that the police are dedicated to rooting out all criminal elements in the KZN province,” said the KwaZulu-Natal acting provincial commissioner Major-General Bheki Langa.

“Such operations will continue in the clusters of the province as part of the Festive Season operations.”
