Four busted over solar panels in PTA

An informant had told them the culprits were in possession of stolen batteries too.

Four men were arrested for stealing solar panels on Monday after a tip-off to a security firm in the east of Pretoria, Pretoria East Rekord reports.

The Brinant Group caught the men in Plastic View informal settlement. An informant had told them the culprits were in possession of stolen solar panels and batteries.

Firm spokesperson Martin Barnard said a church’s solar panels were stolen in the early hours of Monday.

“It was a tip-off from an informant that led us to the informal settlement, and we were taken to where the stolen solar panels were stashed.”

Two men were arrested in possession of one solar panel and four batteries, and the men were handed to Garsfontein Police Station.

Barnard said officials heard there were more stolen panels stashed inside a residence in the informal settlement.

“We [The Brinant Group] alongside police went back to the informal settlement and found the remaining two panels at about 6pm,” said Barnard.

“By 8pm, it was confirmed that both panels were recovered and a further two suspects arrested and handed over to Garsfontein police .”
