Hunt unhappy as Wits score five to top table

Despite the huge winning margin at Bidvest Stadium on Wednesday, coach Gavin Hunt was critical of his team.

Wits became the fourth leaders of the South African Premiership within eight days by hammering bottom club Baroka 5-0 in Johannesburg Wednesday.

But despite the huge winning margin on a murky night, coach Gavin Hunt was critical of his team.

“Forget the scoreline, we did not play well. We were stuck in first gear for most of the match,” he said after his side rose from third to first in the table.

Centre-back Buhle Mkhwanazi led the goal rush with a brace and Daine Klate, Nigerian Ejike Uzoenyi and Phakamani Mahlambi also scored.

In the tight title race, Wits have 34 points, Kaizer Chiefs 33, SuperSport United and Cape Town City 32 each and defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns 29.

Caf Champions League title-holders Sundowns, who won 2-1 at Platinum Stars Tuesday, have matches in hand on all their rivals and host Wits this weekend.

SuperSport scored four goals in 13 minutes during the second half to defeat mid-table Maritzburg United 4-1 in Pretoria after trailing at half-time.

Mandla Masango scored twice within a minute for United before Zimbabwean Kingston Nkhatha and New Zealander Jeremy Brockie netted.
