KZN Sharks Board debunks reports of sardine sightings

People have apparently been circulating old images.


Following numerous reports of sardines being ‘netted’ along the Margate coast line earlier this week, the KZN Sharks Board undertook a trip to a “Hole in the Wall” off the Eastern Cape Coast to see if there were any signs of the tiny fish approaching the KZN south coast, Highway Mail reports.

However, the excitement was shortlived, as the sharp eyes of the KZN team were unable to spot any shoals.

Mike Anderson-Reade, head of operations, confirmed in a press release that people were circulating old photographs on social media.

“Numerous reports of sardines having been netted at Margate this past Monday afternoon and Tuesday morning are not factual,” he said.
