Man who allegedly killed his family and attempted suicide sent for observation
His wife and son both died of multiple gunshot wounds.

A 36-year-old Daveyton man, who allegedly shot and killed his wife and seven-year-old son during an argument, has been referred for mental observation.
Judge Vivian Tlhapi referred Alfred Freddy Setlale, of Putfontein, for 30 days’ observation at the Weskoppies psychiatric hospital in Pretoria to determine if he suffered from any mental illness or defect and if he was fit to stand trial.
Setlale is accused of murdering his wife, Sophie Ntimane, 32, and son Tshepo, 7, during an argument with his wife at their home on August 14 last year.
He is also accused of attempting to murder a 13-year-old boy by firing several shots at him. The state alleges in the charge sheet Ntimane went looking for her husband that night after finding that he was not at home.
After finding him sitting in a car a few houses from their own house, both of them allegedly drove home, whereafter an argument ensued.
The state alleges Setlale then produced his licensed firearm and started shooting at his wife and son, killing both of them.
He also allegedly chased the other boy and fired several shots at him, but missed. According to the state, he then went back to the house where he unsuccessfully tried to commit suicide.
His wife and son both died of multiple gunshot wounds. His son was shot in the head and chest. Setlale’s trial was provisionally postponed to August 16 in the High Court in Pretoria.
