Benoni SAPS spokesperson Capt Nomsa Sekele said the victim alleges she visited the spiritual healer on April 6.

“The suspect then told her she needs to bring her pension payout for cleansing,” said Sekele.

“The victim said she has visited the woman before, so she took the money to her.”

Sekele said when the victim went back the next day to collect the cash, the healer was not at home.

When she called, her phone was off.

A case of theft under false pretences was opened on April 7.

The spokesperson said police were pleading with members of the public not to give their money to herbalists who tell them that their money needs cleansing or that, by doing so, it will double in value.

Police are investigating the whereabouts of the suspect.

Anyone with information that can assist police can contact the Benoni Police Station on 011 747 0000 or 08600 10111.
