ANC wants govt to deal with Brian Molefe’s return to Eskom
It is understood that some of the ANC’s top six leaders wanted the board’s decision to reappointment Molefe to be reversed, according to a report.

The African National Congress (ANC) has reportedly decided to refer the controversial reinstatement of Brian Molefe as Eskom CEO to government to resolve.
This comes after the governing party’s top six leaders on Monday summoned Public Enterprise Minister Lynne Brown to Luthuli House, Johannesburg, to discuss the reappointment following widespread public condemnation, News24 reported.
ANC spokesperson Zizi Kodwa said the national leaders had registered their discomfort over Molefe’s return after a dispute relating to Eskom’s board’s decision to give Molefe a R30 million pension payout.
Molefe left the power utility in November last year under a cloud of corruption allegations after the release of former public protector Thuli Madonsela’s State of Capture report.
“We can confirm the meeting took place yesterday [Monday] between the Minister of Public Enterprise with the ANC national officials, following the reappointment of Mr Brian Molefe,” Kodwa said.
According to the news website, some of the top six leaders are said to have wanted Brown to reverse the decision to reinstate Molefe.
Last Friday, the ANC said Molefe’s reappointment to the helm of Eskom after three months serving as an MP for the party in parliament was “unfortunate and reckless”.
