WATCH: Cyclone Enawo batters Madagascar

The winds are as strong as those caused by another cyclone that killed nearly 100 people.

Storm Report SA has compiled clips above of the devastating winds that hit the island nation of Madagascar yesterday.

Enawo is the strongest storm to hit the country since tropical cyclone Giovanna in 2012, according to the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.

Cyclone Ivan, a similar weather event, killed nearly 100 people and displaced about 190 000 nine years ago.

The storm is moving south and is expected to also affect the capital Antananarivo, with attendant fears of flooding and loss of life.
