Friends had managed to feed an air tube into the 22-year-old’s mouth to help him breath.

Watch Commander Shaun Dakin said the man could have suffocated or been seriously injured.

Seven bags of Polyfilla had been mixed and poured around his head which was protected by a plastic bag.  The disconnected microwave was then used as a mould.

But the mixture soon set hard and by the time the firefighters were called friends had been frantically trying to remove the oven from the the man’s head for an hour and a half.

It took the firefighters a further hour to take the microwave apart and free him.
