Pupils boycott classes, demanding they can wear skinny pants

The education MEC feels this might set a wrong precedent in the schooling environment.


The Gauteng education department is visiting Pretoria West High School this morning, where pupils are boycotting classes and demanding to be allowed to wear skinny pants, George Herald reports.

MEC Panyaza Lesufi says pupils have not followed the right procedure by lodging a formal complaint with the school governing body since they started protesting on Friday.

Lesufi said he felt let down and disappointed by the pupils.

“I’m taken aback, I don’t know why. My honest fear to that trend is something that may set precedent within the schooling environment, so I don’t want anything that may set a wrong precedent within the schooling environment.”
