RIP Tina Turner! World mourns the loss of ‘another hero’ of rock n roll

BREAKING: The undisputed 'Queen of Rock 'n Roll' Tina Turner has died at the age of 83 following her a long illness.


Breaking news out of Switzerland is that Tina Turner, known to thousands as a queen of song, and to millions as “simply the best”, has died at the age of 83.

In a statement, the feisty vocalist’s representatives announced the news of her passing on Wednesday, 24 May:

“Tina Turner, the ‘Queen of Rock’n Roll’ has died peacefully today at the age of 83 after a long illness in her home in Kusnacht, near Zurich, Switzerland.

“With her, the world loses a music legend and a role model.”

Remarkable career of powerhouse performer that was Tina Turner

Her death follows a long, unspecified illness and a remarkable career which spanned over many decades.

The gutsy performer known for hits, such as We Don’t Need Another Hero, The Best and What’s Love Got to Do With It, sold a hundred million records and was the first black female artist to appear on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine.

Long-term illness takes its toll

The iconic singer had suffered a number of health issues in recent years, including cancer, a stroke, and kidney failure.

Turner was married twice in her life, first to Ike Turner and then to Erwin Bach.
