Soulful Musa dreams of R&B

'Idols SA' winner Musa Sukwene is eager to embark on his life-long dream of becoming a professional musician and sees a move to Johannesburg as a prerequisite.

Musa on Tuesday became the ninth South African Idol when he beat runner-up Brenden Ledwaba to the top spot by a 1000 votes.

Musa has, however, revealed that he has a “gentleman’s agreement” with Brenden about sharing their prizes, akin to 2010 winner Elvis Blue’s decision to share his winnings with runner-up Lloyd Cele. Musa declined to elaborate on their arrangement, though.

Speaking to the Daily Voice, the 26-year-old from eMalahleni said he will be heading home in a few weeks’ time but will most likely relocate to Johannesburg.

Of his musical aspirations, he said he wants to sing soul and R&B.

“Maybe in a few years’ time I will do gospel music, but I’m a soulful guy, so that’s the kind of music I wanna make,” he said.

Musa also revealed that his five-year-old son is a little bit puzzled by all the sudden commotion and the attention lavished on his father.

“Because he’s still small he doesn’t really understand,” he said.

“When we got to the finale and people were asking us to pose for pictures, then he realised something was different.”
