Crime fighting is now at the fingertips of Pretoria East residents after cellphone technology was introduced to report ongoing crime or emergencies to police.
Brooklyn police have introduced the Namola pilot project, an application for mobile devices to instantly send out emergency alerts to police officers.
Namola devices were installed inside patrol vehicles on Friday and linked to a control room, police spokesperson Captain Colette Weilbach said.
“This will enable faster response times and more efficient flow of information. When a citizen sends out an alert, the nearest Brooklyn police and Tshwane metro police vehicles that are Namola app compliant are able to see the exact location of the incident,” she said.
The first available officer is dispatched to the incident while being monitored by the control room.
“While en route to an incident,the officer is able to receive messages from the citizen and phone them if they need more information.”
The application does not substitute the emergency number 10111, but enhances all crime fighting resources, she said.
