As thousands of marchers gathered on the lawns of the Union Buildings, Joshua Zimmerman was waiting at the back of the stage hoping to meet his leader in person for the first time.
Dressed in a red T-shirt and placard in hand, Zimmerman, who was born in KwaZulu-Natal, said he now lives in Gauteng and is a member of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF).
On his placard he asked EFF commander-in-chief Julius Malema to adopt him.
“I am a member of the EFF. I feel that Julius Malema is an African revolutionist, whereas Jacob Zuma is a revolutionist thief. I always look up to Julius Malema.
“He has always been my role model and inspiration and I hope one day he can take me in as his own son,” said Zimmerman.
Fellow supporters were also trying hard to get the attention of senior EFF leaders so that they could introduce Zimmerman to Malema.
He said if only he could meet Malema, it would make his dream come true.
