Winnie Mandela ‘backs’ Dlamini-Zuma for ANC presidency

Dlamini-Zuma, Bathabile Dlamini and members of the ANC Women's League paid a visit to the stalwart's home in Soweto.

Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma’s camp claims Winnie Mandela supports Dlamini-Zuma’s campaign for the ANC presidency and becoming the country’s first woman president.

According to The Sowetan, ANCWL secretary-general Meokgo Matuba, league president Bathabile Dlamini and Umkhonto weSizwe Military Veterans Association national executive committee member Carl Niehaus accompanied Dlamini-Zuma to visit Madikizela-Mandela’s home in Soweto.

Though the media was allowed to spend only a short time at Madikizela-Mandela’s home, Dlamini-Zuma is said to have emerged from her homestead saying she had received wisdom from the stalwart.

“Winnie is our hero. We can’t go too far without touching base with her. Even last month, I was here touching base with her.

“She wants to know how we are doing. We get wisdom from her. She believes also it is time we have a woman president.”

Dlamini added she was impressed by the league’s choice for ANC president.

“Our candidate is highly disciplined. She understands women issues. I am sure when she is the president, she will ensure we are not treated as objects.”
