Kidnapped Sterkstoom woman, 71, found alive

Police could not say at this stage if the woman had sustained any injuries.

A 71-year-old Eastern Cape businesswoman Denise Bartlett was on Friday found alive after she was abducted by two suspects from her home earlier this week, police said on Friday.

Police spokesperson Captain Namhla Mdleleni said Bartlett was found in Sterkstroom, near Queenstown in the Eastern Cape, and two suspects were arrested.

She could not say at this stage if the woman had sustained any injuries.

Mdleleni said the woman arrived home on Tuesday evening when she was attacked by two suspects in her house. She said that Bartlett and her 22-year-old granddaughter were allegedly assaulted by the suspects.

“They took the woman and an undisclosed amount of money, leaving her grandchild behind,” said Mdleleni. The vehicle was found abandoned in Queenstown shortly after the woman’s alleged kidnapping.

The suspects are facing charges of kidnapping and house robbery, and will appear in court soon.
