ANC to ‘immediately remove’ billboard with embarrassing spelling error

In Nelson Mandela Bay the ANC briefly wanted to do more 'togher'.

In a statement on Tuesday, the ANC downplayed the significance of a spelling error on its billboards in Nelson Mandela Bay.

The party misspelt the word ‘together’ on the billboard, instead publishing it as ‘togher’, leading to much mockery, especially on social media.

The ANC blamed its service provider for the mistake and slammed opposition parties for making fun of the error as “a sign that opposition parties do not have anything to offer voters as we approach the May 8 general election … as such, they have resorted to focusing their campaigns on minor errors attributed to the ANC”.

“We consider this a very minor and insignificant setback to our campaign and will ensure the immediate removal of the billboard, which will, in turn, kill the campaign of the opposition.”

DA councillor and well-known YouTuber Renaldo Gouws had on Monday evening shared a photo of the bizarrely misspelt billboard in his hometown of Nelson Mandela Bay.

He said in an accompanying caption that there were “many” such billboards that had popped up around Port Elizabeth that day. Other photos have also since emerged.

National and provincial elections in South Africa are now three weeks away.
