Bell Pottinger exploring potential sale following PRCA expulsion

Bell Pottinger has lost its contract with HSBC, and the Bank of Ireland has revealed it is reviewing its relationship with the PR agency.

British public relations firm Bell Pottinger on Wednesday said it was exploring the potential of selling the business after it was expelled from an industry trade body this week for a campaign stirring racial tensions in South Africa.

According to BBC News, a spokesperson for Bell Pottinger confirmed it had hired accountancy firm BDO to look at the options for the business moving forward, which could include the possible sale of the PR agency.

On Tuesday, the Public Relations and Communications Associations (PRCA) found that Bell Pottinger’s controversial campaign in South Africa on behalf of Gupta-owned Oakbay Capital was “likely to inflame racial discord” in the country.

The PR firm was found to have breached two clauses of the PRCA’s professional charter and two clauses of its public affairs and lobbying code of conduct.
