Bryanston woman places calabash next to electricity pole to scare off City Power officials

She was arrested for illegal connection of electricity.

A woman from Bryanston, Johannesburg, was arrested on Tuesday for alleged illegal connection of electricity. The occupant of the house had allegedly reconnected herself on several occasions with the help of contractors, before the property was found to be owing the City of Joburg R91,366, said the City of Joburg Group Forensic and Investigation Service.

“It further established that City Power had previously conducted level 3 cut-offs at this property on the 15 January and 13 February 2019 and the suspect again illegally reconnected herself. Another cut-off was requested  from City Power and another level 3 cut-off was conducted on 24 Feb 2019 on the property. Again the suspect illegally reconnected herself.”

She then allegedly placed a calabash next to the electric pole to deter City Power officials from disconnecting her again.

She appeared at Randburg Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday where she was granted R2,000, bail. She is expected to appear again on June 4.
