Ezweni News editor found dead in Mpumalanga

Welcome Thobejane was found in a black Polo, badly beaten, with a rope tied around his neck.


The man who was found dead inside a black Polo on the N4 next to Balmoral in Mpumalanga has been identified as renowned journalist and editor of Ezweni News, reports Witbank News.

Jabu Yende said the death of his brother Welcome Thobejane is a huge shock to the family.

“We do not know what happened after Welcome left for church in Pretoria at 04:00 on April 10,” Yende said.

Sergeant Khomotso Maluleke, Vosman police spokesperson said a complaint was received of a vehicle parked on the side of the N4 route next to Balmoral.

“Upon the police’s arrival, they found Mr Thobejane tied with a rope around his neck, hands and legs on the back seat. He was beaten.”

A case of murder is being investigated.

Anyone with information that may assist police in tracing the suspects and family of the deceased is urged to contact Sgt Holiday Mashabela on 076 801 1874 or the SAPS Crime Stop number, 08600 10111.

“My brother would not harm anyone. He was a gentleman who loved his family,” Yende said.

Thobejane was laid to rest on Thursday at Kromdraai Cemetery.
