Man murdered, wife burnt with hot water in farm attack

'Four armed suspects attacked a couple, both 55, in their residence and held them hostage,' police confirmed.

A man was murdered on Monday night on his farm outside Kapteinsdrift outside Bonnievale, Western Cape, and his wife has been injured, confirmed the South African Police Service (Saps).

Lieutenant Colonel Andrè Traut told The Citizen: “The circumstances surrounding a murder and an attempted murder are being investigated by police, following an incident on a farm in Bonnievale last night at around 6.30pm.

“Four armed suspects attacked a couple, both 55, in their residence and held them hostage.

“The female victim, who sustained a stab wound, managed to escape and alerted police. The body of her husband was later discovered approximately 200m from the house.

“The suspects fled with two firearms and are yet to be arrested. Any person with information is kindly requested to contact Crime Stop on 08600 10111.”

According to AfriForum’s head of safety, Ian Cameron, the couple was attacked by four men wearing balaclavas.

“Wife escaped to a neighbouring farm with a stab wound on her chest and was burnt with hot water on her back. House ransacked, firearm safe missing. Husband’s body found 500m from house,” Cameron tweeted.
