Heroes use own vehicles to run unsuspecting criminals off the road

Members of the Vaal Response Unit used their own vehicles during a high-speed chase to nab three suspected thieves.

Three thieves caught breaking into a property were certainly not expecting dedicated response unit members to pursue them in their own cars on Tuesday afternoon.

Two members of the Vaal Response Unit (VRU), who use their own vehicles to patrol the community, got involved in a high-speed chase with the suspects, before managing to knock them off the road, reports Vaal Weekblad.

Two of the thieves travelling in a stolen Ford Ecosport with fake number plates crashed into a wall and were promptly arrested. Just before being driven off the road, an A-SEC security guard fired his weapon at the oncoming vehicle. The third suspect, who planned to jump out of the car to escape, ended up falling out of the car and was also arrested.

After the crash, members from the CW community watch, DAI Security, JH Tactical Response Team, EMS Security, Rescom, tow trucks, and police descended on the scene. Some of the responders were also involved in the high-speed chase. Gauteng EMS were on the scene and found one of the suspects to be suffering from asthma-related breathing problems.

The suspects were allegedly busy breaking into a property when they were surprised by the VRU, which spurred on the intense chase through the town, with speeds of up to 160km/h recorded. When the VRU ran the suspects’ vehicle off the road, their cars were also damaged, and with no insurance, they say they may need the community’s help.

Forensic investigators arrived at the scene, and all three suspects were arrested. The case is currently being investigated by police.
