Police in Mpumalanga have launched a manhunt for unknown suspects after two men were killed, one of them torched inside his car at a tavern in Kwaggafontein in the early hours of Christmas morning.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the other male sustained a fatal gunshot wound.
Police spokesperson Brigadier Selvy Mohlala said officers who responded to the scene found one of the victims still burning inside a VW Citi Golf after being severely assaulted.
In an attempt to rescue the man from the car, fire and rescue workers and paramedics were called on scene. Unfortunately he was declared dead on scene.
“The other victim, who also sustained gunshot wounds, was certified dead as well by the paramedics,” said Mohlala.
Reports suggest that one of the men was torched in an act of retaliation. He allegedly shot the other victim earlier.

He was then assaulted by a group of people and ran to his vehicle, where he was ultimately burnt alive. Police are yet to identify him.
Two counts of murder are being probed.
“No one has been arrested and police urge anyone with information that may assist in the investigation to call the Crime Stop number at 08600 10111 or send information via MySAPS App. All received information will be treated as confidential and callers may opt to remain anonymous,” said Mohlala.
Provincial Commissioner General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela has condemned the prevalent tavern murders that occurred during the Christmas weekend.
“The incidents allegedly took place in the early hours of the morning during the time in which liquor outlets should have closed for business. However, the General vowed that the law enforcement agencies will deal decisively with those who decide to contravene the regulations by creating a conducive environment for criminality to take place and such will not be spared,” he added.
