The Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD), in a successful joint operation with Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD), have recently arrested a suspect in Alberton for creating fraudulent documents.
The man then provided law enforcement with information that led to a forgery house operated by a syndicate on the corner of Loveday and Anderson streets in the Johannesburg CBD, Rising Sun Lenasia reported.
Office of the MMC for Public Safety’s Luyanda Longwe said fake cheques and other documents were recovered at the house.
“The JMPD K-9 Unit and EMPD officers recovered fake cheques, identity documents, driving licenses and salary slips. Various equipment to manufacture fraudulent documents worth approximately R10 million were recovered.”
She added: “At the house three suspects were also arrested, and the total of four suspects are being detained at the Johannesburg Central South African Police Service (SAPS). The suspects are also linked to a hijacking case where vehicles were smuggled over the South African border to Zimbabwe.”
“As criminal operations are not limited to specific borders, it is important the metros work together to clamp down on crime. This joint operation is a perfect example of how we can all work together to stop criminal syndicates from operating in our cities,” she said.
