Gauteng education dept to sign agreement with Klipspruit West residents

Klipspruit West residents have taken to the streets in protest against the appointment of a black principal at a local school.

The Gauteng department of education (GDE) said on Friday that an agreement on the way forward regarding the Klipspruit West schooling issues would be signed following a meeting with the local community.

“An agreement on the way forward regarding complaints on the process of appointing the principal, allegations of corruption, mismanagement of funds at the school and racism will be signed today, 4 August 2017, after consultation with other stakeholders,” the department said in a statement.

“The meeting resolved that schooling will resume and continue uninterrupted with immediate effect,” the department said. “We undertake to continue to inform the public regarding details of the said agreement.”

The department said MEC Panyaza Lesufi would ensure that the Gauteng provincial government engaged the community on other socioeconomic issues affecting the area.

Gauteng infrastructure and development MEC Jacob Mamabolo said: “I am delighted that we had a progressive meeting with the committee, and MEC Panyaza Lesufi will also be pleased about the outcome.”
