Sars CFO Matsobane Matlwa resigns

He allegedly resigned after he was served with a suspension letter.

Chief financial officer of the SA Revenue Service (Sars) Matsobane Matlwa has resigned.

Matlwa allegedly tendered his resignation on Wednesday after he was served with a suspension letter. However, it remains unclear what the suspension relates to.

Sars spokesperson Sandile Memela confirmed Matlwa’s resignation to TimesLIVE on Friday morning. He said the tax collection agency would not “divulge or discuss its employees and related matters between employee and employer in the public domain”.

Memela told the news website Sars’ current group executive for procurement, Johnston Makhubu, would be the acting CFO.

“Sars wishes to assert that the organisation has a capable and skilled leadership and employees that work as a collective to fulfill its mandate. Sars has for two consecutive years collected over a R1-trillion. With this in mind, the organisation remains resolute, focused and singleminded about meeting our revenue collection target of R 1.265 trillion,” he said.
