IN TWEETS: Snow falls on picturesque Drakensberg

The mountain range, as well as the Free State and Mpumalanga, have experienced varying degrees of snowfall, as a surprise cold front grips the country.

Snow fell in many parts of South Africa and Lesotho last night. Rob Ansell from Snow Report SA reported from the southern Drakensberg this morning to update eager residents.

Ansell says that the cloud cover lifted this morning to reveal an amazing view. Snow reports streamed in last night from the southern, central, and northern Drakensberg, as well as the top of Sani Pass, and there were also reports of heavy snow in the Maluti mountains near AfriSki resort.

Snow was announced in parts of the Free State, including Golden Gate National Park. It stretched as far as Carolina in Mpumalanga.
