Mpumalanga Pick n Pay blast hospitalises 10 workers

According to the workers, the incident happened in the bakery at about 11.40am yesterday.


More than 10 workers from a Pick n Pay in Barberton, Mpumalanga, have been rushed to Barberton General Hospital, following a blast at the supermarket, Barbeton Times reports.

According to workers who spoke on condition of anonymity, the incident happened in the bakery at yesterday morning.

The blast also affected the butchery section. Those injured were transported to the hospital in ambulances.

The local department of labour’s personnel were seen entering the supermarket. Workers claimed they were scared to return to work. The supermarket has been temporarily closed.

The store’s manager, Graeme Webb, could not be reached for comment by the time of going to press.
