Bukiwe Nonina brings home top award

Bukiwe Anaconda Nonina reaped the well-deserved fruits of her hard work when she took home the prestigious SA best female boxer award on Friday.

The well-known World Boxing Federation (WBF) bantamweight champion from Giyani received another plume in her cap during the ceremony held in Port Elizabeth, to great acclaim of her fans and peers alike, Capricorn Voice reports.

This was not the first time she claimed this prestigious award as she took it home in 2016, this year beating Mapula Ngubane and Noni Tenge for the laurels.

Nonina dedicated this achievement to her fans in Giyani, Mopani Mayor, Nkareng Rakgoale, MEC of Sport, Onicca Moloi and her sponsor, known as Mr Mafumo, and his sons, who have supported her every step of the way.

“I feel honoured, and overwhelmed, by this award and I thank everyone who have been with me since day one. As I said before, I didn’t win this award because I fight better than others, it’s a reward for my hard work,” Nonina said.

Her trainer, Emmanuel Mutavhatsindi, said he felt elated she won the award as she deserved. “She worked exceptionally hard and now we are preparing for her next fight against Alesia Graf in Germany where she will defend her WBF title,” he said.

Mutavhatsindi thanked the fans for the support they have shown Nonina throughout her boxing career.
