Bloemfontein-based state electricity distribution company Centlec has warned consumers of a fake Whatsapp message urging them to stock up on pre-paid power due to an apparent pending strike.
“The intention of this message is nothing but to cause confusion and unnecessary panic among our clients and customers in general,” it said.
“There’s absolutely no truth in this, and we appeal to all our clients and customers to dismiss this fake message,” it added, saying the message also exposed a lack of understanding by the sender of how the pre-paid electricity system works.
According to SABC News, plans to investigate the source of the message are underway.
