A mugger got more than he bargained for when he was shot while trying to rob a woman on Longacres Drive on Monday afternoon in Amazimtoti, KwaZulu-Natal, South Coast Sun reports.

According to CCPO supervisor Jason Hewitt, the man and an accomplice accosted the woman while she was walking home at about 2pm.

“She put up such a fuss, neighbouring municipal workers heard her screams and ran to assist her. One of the workers pulled out his 9mm firearm and shot one of her attackers through the ribs under his left arm,” said Hewitt.
ER24 stabilised the criminal before transporting him to hospital.
