Vicki Momberg
Former estate agent Vicky Momberg was sentenced to three years, with one year suspended, this morning for her racist outburst back in 2016.
Momberg was found guilty of four counts of crimen injuria in November last year after she was seen shouting racial slurs at a black police officer in 2016 who was trying to assist her after she was involved in an alleged smash-and-grab incident.
Handing down the sentence in the Randburg Magistrates’ Court, magistrate Pravina Rugoonandan was reported as saying that condemning the racially abusive k-word would deter others from using the word.
She said Momberg’s use of the k-word had stripped the police officer of his dignity and that though she had accepted responsibility for her emotional outburst, regret does not guarantee remorse.
The hashtag Vicky Momberg is now trending on Twitter, with many of the platform’s users welcoming the sentencing, which will see Momberg spend two years behind bars.
