One killed, 16 injured in serious Midrand taxi crash

One passenger sustained critical injuries and was later declared dead on the scene.

Paramedics attended the scene of a serious taxi crash on the N1 South after Allandale Road in Midrand just after 6am on Monday morning to find a taxi had rear-ended another vehicle, lost control and rolled off the highway.

Emer-G-Med paramedics attended the scene and spokesperson Max Cohen said about 16 people were injured in the collision.

“One passenger sustained critical injuries and required advanced life support intervention. Unfortunately the patient’s vital signs deteriorated and the patient was later declared dead on the scene,” said Cohen.

“One other patient sustained serious injuries that required advanced life support care. The remaining patients sustained minor to moderate injuries.”

He said the patients were assessed and managed at the scene before being transported to various nearby facilities for further care.

Johannesburg metro police’s specialist accident investigation unit attended the scene to investigate the exact events surrounding the collision.
