Ace Magashule accused of exaggerating his struggle credentials

A new book focused squarely on Magashule's role in state capture has made some explosive claims.

A riveting new book set to be published today has laid bare the alleged shady dealings of ANC secretary-general Ace Magashule.

According to a report published by Sunday Times, Magashule has been accused of rampant corruption, ruthless gangsterism and even exaggerating his struggle credentials in the book.

Gangster State, Unravelling Ace Magashule’s Web of Capture by Pieter-Louis Myburgh contains various accounts of tales that place Magashule squarely at the centre of the state capture saga.

One such tale is an account of former Mangaung mayor Thabo Manyoni’s first meeting with the Guptas which was facilitated by Magashule.

Manyoni goes on to chronicle the slow death his political career suffered after his refusal to co-operate in state capture.

The report goes on to state that leaked e-mails and documents implicate Magashule in the alleged diversion of funds in the millions from a massive government contract in the Free State.

Regarding his struggle credentials, Magashule has previously allegedly claimed that he was part of a group who trained Stompie Seipei and others how to use AK47s and hand grenades at the home of the late Winnie Madikizela Mandela.

A claim which a former Umkhonto weSizwe (MK) operative from the Free State and a former United Democratic Front (UDF) leader has dismissed on account ofSeipei being a child at the time Magashule was alleged to have trained him and Magahule’s own lack of military training,

Magashule has refused to comment, but ANC spokesperson Dakota Legoete, has been quoted as saying “we note your baseless fabrications. They form part of unending and unproven allegations that have been levelled against the SG, with the primary objective to tarnish his image and rewrite his history.”

He also accused “those with ulterior motives” of claiming amnesia and “seeking to rewrite” Magashule’s history and stated that if the claims in the book were true, the author would approach the authorities with the information they uncovered while compiling the book.
