DA lies to voters that De Lille is still a member – Good party

The Good party is threatening to report the Democratic Alliance (DA) to the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) for allegedly lying to voters that former Cape Town mayor Patricia de Lille is still a member of the DA.

The new party was campaigning in Mitchells Plain in the Western Cape last week when some residents said they were encouraged to vote for the DA by campaigners, who claimed De Lille was still a member and had sent them to convey this.

“They told the residents that they were there at my request,” said De Lille in a scathing press statement. “The residents were confused and shocked when I arrived … and asked them to support Good.

“I had to explain to them that they had been lied to. The DA’s conduct in using my name and lying to residents is disgusting and dishonest.”

The firebrand politician castigated the DA for allegedly using her name in their campaign after spending millions to get rid of her.

“Their conduct was deeply dehumanising. Yet, they feel they need to use my name to canvas for support.”

But the DA, the governing party in Western Cape, has denied this claim.

Its provincial leader, Bonginkosi Madikizela, said the accusation didn’t even deserve a comment.

“She needs to focus on her campaign as far as we are concerned,” Madikizela said of De Lille. “I mean, we have parted ways with her. It’s in the past so, honestly, we have no comment.”

Good said it would send a video to DA leaders and the IEC of one of the residents corroborating the claim.

In the video, an elderly woman says people in blue T-shirts were asking residents to sign papers saying they want De Lille back in government.
