In another crime story, a man is being treated in hospital after suffering a gunshot wound to his left leg in Angelo informal settlement on February 10.

According to the Boksburg police, the victim was standing outside his shack when a gunman known to him arrived and opened fire on him. He fired several shots, and one of the bullets hit the man as he was diving for cover.

Police are investigating an attempted murder case.

Based on police records, the troubled tiny settlement sees at least one or more incidents of gun violence per week, and it has the highest numbers of gun homicide compared to the other areas falling under the Boksburg policing precinct.

The records reveal that people who live in the area are many times more likely to be injured or murdered with a gun than people in other areas within the precinct.

Unemployment, illegal mining, illegal immigrants, substance abuse, poverty, poor policing and a host of other social issues are said to be the main contributing factors to crime in the area.
