Tshwane cops round-up of over 400 suspects

According to Selepe, some of the suspects were arrested for domestic violence, assault and possession of stolen property.

More than 400 suspects were arrested for various crimes in Pretoria and surrounding areas over the weekend during a joint operation by the police, the Tshwane Metro Police Department and the home affairs department.

Police spokesperson Captain Augustinah Selepe said this was an intelligence-driven operation across the Tshwane west police cluster. “The intention is to curb crime and other illegal activities,” she said.

According to Selepe, some of the suspects were arrested for domestic violence, assault, possession of stolen property, possession of unlicensed firearms, unlicensed liquor outlets, attempted murder, murder, rape, business and house burglaries, thefts, drugs and driving under the influence of alcohol.

“Among those arrested were four males aged between 25 and 58. They were arrested in Atteridgeville for possession of three unlicensed firearms and ammunition. The police received a tipoff that the suspects were about to rob a business,” Selepe said.

Police also seized a white Ford Ranger and a red VW Polo during the arrest of the four. Selepe said the suspects were profiled and it was discovered that they have pending cases against them.

“Three have been convicted for various crimes, including robberies.”

The suspects will soon appear the Pretoria Magistrates’ Court.
