Tshwane mayor Solly Msimanga has issued a stern warning to residents found deliberately trying to disrupt the municipality’s free WiFi, reports the Pretoria North Rekord.
This comes after residents of Ga-Rankuwa, Soshanguve and Mabopane complained about frequent disruptions to the WiFi.
One resident, Otsile Matlhase, said the disruption was causing frustration among the residents.
“It is on and off. One minute it works, the next it does not. We rely heavily on it for lots of things, including looking for work,” said Matlhase.
Some of the residents said the WiFi used to be consistent before the DA took over the municipality.

Mayoral spokesperson Samkelo Mgobozi said Msimanga was aware of criminal elements trying to sabotage the municipality’s provision of services.
“The municipality will not hesitate to take harsh action against people who delay or disrupt the municipality’s services … even if they are found to be ANC members using their political infighting to deter the municipality services,” said Mgobozi.
Mgobozi said the Msimanga was taking reports about disruptions to the Wi-Fi very seriously.
“This will be reported to the MMCs for community safety and corporate shared services. They will deal with this issue.
“We hope to get people behind the disruptions.”
