Cape Town residents have been warned to brace for a strong cold front this weekend.
The cold front is expected to move across the Cape, bringing cold, wet, and windy conditions. As Vox Weather forecasts, fresh to strong winds are already expected ahead of the system this Friday.
“Very cold, wet and windy conditions are expected over the Karoo Hoogland Northern Cape and the Witzenberg Western Cape municipalities on Saturday,” warned the South African Weather Service (Saws).
“Strong to gale force north-westerly winds are expected in Places over Chris Hani and Joe Gqabi DMs on Saturday, while westerly south-westerly winds accompanied by very rough seas are expected in places along the coast between Plettenberg Bay and Peddie from Saturday into Sunday.”
While no cold weather conditions or cold fronts have been forecast for Gauteng, the province will experience lower temperatures as winter moves in.
Temperatures for Johannesburg have been forecast at a minimum of 11°C in Johannesburg, with a high of 22°C

Pretoria has been forecast with a minimum of 13°C and a high of 24°C, while Vereeniging will experience a minimum of 9°C and a high of 25°C.
The Saws also issued several impact-based warnings, advisories and fire hazard warnings.
“A yellow level 4 warning for damaging winds that lead to problems with navigation at sea and possible damage to informal settlements is expected between Table Bay and Plettenberg Bay until Saturday.”
Saws said a yellow level 4 warning for harmful waves that can cause navigation problems for small vessels and personal water vessels is also expected between Table Bay and Plettenberg Bay from Saturday to Sunday.
“A yellow level 2 for damaging winds that can cause local problems for high vehicles on main roads are expected from Saturday morning to Saturday evening over the Hantam and Karoo Highland municipalities in the Northern Cape, the Central and Klein Karoo, as well as the eastern parts of the Cape Wineland districts in the Western Cape.”
Extremely high fire conditions are expected over the interior of the Namakwa District of the Northern Cape, the Central Karoo and Kannaland Municipalities of the Western Cape, and the Raymond Mhlaba and Dr Beyers Naude Municipalities of the Eastern Cape.
