Weather alert: Heatwave to hit parts of the Northern Cape

The South African Weather Service (Saws) has released its latest weather forecast for Tuesday, 13 May 2025.

A heatwave and extremely high fire danger conditions are expected in parts of the Northern Cape.

Weather warnings, Tuesday, 13 May

The weather service has warned that extremely high fire danger conditions are expected over the Richtersveld and Nama Khoi Municipalities in the Northern Cape.

A heatwave with persistently high temperatures is expected over the Richtersveld Municipality in the Northern Cape until Friday, 16 May.

Provincial weather forecast

Here’s what to expect in your province on Tuesday, 13 May:

Gauteng:

Residents of Gauteng can expect morning fog patches and frost in places in the south, otherwise it will be fine and cool.

Mpumalanga:

Mpumalanga residents can expect to wake up to morning fog along the escarpment and in places over the Highveld, otherwise it will be fine and cool, but partly cloudy and warm in the Lowveld.

Limpopo:

The day will be fine and cool to warm, becoming partly cloudy, except in the south.

North West:

Partly cloudy weather awaits North West residents in the east and the extreme north, otherwise conditions will be fine and cool.

Free State:

Residents of the Free State will experience fine and cold to cool conditions.

Northern Cape:

The day will be fine and cool to warm.

Western Cape:

Western Cape residents can expect fine and warm weather, but it will be cool along the south coast and the south-western parts.

Eastern Cape (western half):

It will be fine and warm, but cool in places along the coast and in the north.

Eastern Cape (eastern half):

The day will be fine and cool.

KwaZulu-Natal:

Residents of KwaZulu-Natal can expect morning fog patches over the northern interior, otherwise it will be fine and cool to warm.

The region’s expected UVB sunburn index is “high”.

Residents should take the necessary precautions against prolonged sun exposure.
